Amazon Return or Refund Stuck: How to Fix It

You sent an item back (or cancelled an order) but the refund hasn't landed, or the return status seems frozen.

Try these in order

  1. Check the return tracker. Go to Your Returns, find the item under the last 3 months, and select View return status to see exactly where it is (Amazon refund status help).
  2. Match the status to the right wait time. Once the return is Received, Amazon processes it within 14 days of drop-off; after "Refund issued," allow your bank up to 7 days, or about 4 hours for a gift-card balance (Amazon refund status help).
  3. Confirm where the money is going. Open the order details and read the "refund to" line — refunds sometimes route to your Amazon gift card balance instead of your card (TheToolsTrunk).
  4. Verify the parcel was actually scanned. Open the carrier link and check for a first drop-off scan; without one, the refund clock never starts (TheToolsTrunk).
  5. Save your evidence. Keep the drop-off receipt, return confirmation email, and screenshots of the tracking and return status pages (ParcelPath).
  6. Escalate if tracking shows delivered but Amazon says "not received." Contact Amazon with your order number, return authorisation, and tracking proof rather than waiting out the full processing window (ParcelPath).
  7. Check your email and Message Centre. Amazon sends an automated confirmation when a refund is issued, which tells you if it has already gone through (Amazon refund help).
Still stuck? Contact Amazon Customer Service to check the refund status directly and ask for written confirmation of their decision (About Amazon).
