Zoom Audio or Video Not Working: How to Fix It

Nobody can hear you in a Zoom call, you can't hear them, or your camera shows a black screen.

Try these in order

  1. Check the obvious hardware bits. Make sure your mic, speakers, or headphones are plugged in and not muted; unplug and replug them, and for Bluetooth confirm the device is on and connected (Zoom Support).
  2. Close other apps using the mic or camera. Zoom can't access a device that another program has grabbed (Zoom Support).
  3. Run Zoom's audio test. Record a short message and play it back to see whether the mic or the speakers are the problem (Zoom Support).
  4. Pick the right device in settings. In Zoom's audio settings, confirm the correct microphone and speaker are selected and the volume is turned up (Zoom Support).
  5. Give Zoom permission. In your computer or phone's privacy settings, allow Zoom to use the microphone and camera (Zoom Support).
  6. Check your camera selection for video problems. Test your video and confirm the right camera is chosen in Zoom's video settings (Zoom Support).
  7. Update or reinstall. Install the latest Zoom version, update your audio drivers and operating system, then restart your device (Zoom Support).
Still stuck? Some antivirus programs block app access to the microphone, so check those settings; otherwise dial into the meeting by phone and contact Zoom Support (Zoom Support).
