Spotify Offline Downloads Failing: How to Fix It
The download arrow spins forever, songs show as "not downloaded," or music you already saved disappears when you go offline.
Try these in order
- Check you're on Premium Only Premium subscribers can download music. On the free plan you can download podcasts only.
- Make sure your internet connection is active Downloads need a live connection to start, even though you'll play them offline later.
- Free up storage space Spotify recommends having at least 1GB of free memory on your device before downloading.
- Turn on downloads over cellular if you're not on Wi-Fi Go to your profile picture, Settings and privacy, then Data-saving and offline, and switch on "Downloads over cellular."
- Check your device limit You can download to a maximum of 5 devices. Adding a sixth removes downloads from whichever device you've used least recently.
- Turn off cache-clearing and battery-saver apps These delete Spotify's downloaded files in the background. Then restart the app, and reinstall it if needed.
Still stuck? Downloads also disappear if you don't go online at least once every 30 days, if your app is out of date, or if you're saving to a faulty SD card. Note that individual songs can't be downloaded — add them to a playlist and download the playlist instead.
