Discord Voice Chat Not Working: How to Fix It
People can't hear you in a voice channel, you can't hear them, or the call sits on "RTC Connecting" and never joins.
Try these in order
- Check you're not muted or deafened. Look at the mic and headset icons near your name — a slash through either one means your voice or audio is switched off (Discord Support).
- Check your headset connection. Make sure the USB plug or jack is fully seated, try a different port, and test the mic in another app (Discord Support).
- Pick the right input and output device. In User Settings > Voice & Video, select the correct microphone and speakers and run a Mic Test (Discord Support).
- Give Discord microphone permission. Check your Windows or Mac privacy settings so Discord is allowed to use the mic and camera (Discord Support).
- Work out whether it's one server or all of them. If it's just one, ask the server admins to confirm you have the Connect, Speak, and Video permissions (Discord Support).
- Turn off VPN or firewall interference. Errors like "No Route" or "ICE Checking" usually mean a firewall, antivirus, or VPN is blocking Discord — allowlist it or disable it temporarily (Discord Support).
- Restart your router and switch voice region. Reboot the modem, router, and computer, and if you run the server try a different region under Voice Channel Settings > Overview > Region Override (Discord Support).
