Discord App Keeps Crashing: How to Fix It
Discord closes itself as soon as you open it, freezes on the loading screen, or won't finish installing.
Try these in order
- Restart your device. Turning the phone or computer off and on again is Discord's first recommended step (Discord Support).
- Update your operating system. Check your device settings and install any pending software updates (Discord Support).
- Free up storage space. Discord needs room to install and run, so clear space if your device is nearly full (Discord Support).
- Clear Discord's cache. On Windows clear %appdata%/discord/Cache, on Mac ~/Library/Application Support/discord/Cache; on Android, clearing the Play Store cache and data helps with install failures (Discord Support).
- Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data. Network problems can cause installs and reinstalls to fail partway (Discord Support).
- Turn off animations. In Settings > Accessibility, disable Automatically Play GIFs, Animated Emojis, and set stickers to Never Animate (Discord Support).
- Reinstall from the official store, and check requirements. Only install from Google Play or the App Store, and on desktop make sure you're on Windows 10 or later or macOS 11 with at least 4GB of RAM (Discord Support).
Still stuck? For desktop freezes, try disabling hardware acceleration in User Settings > Advanced; if crashes continue, contact Discord Support (Discord Support).
