Outlook Login Problems: How to Fix It
Outlook keeps rejecting your password, or it says it can't find an account with your username.
Try these in order
- Run the Microsoft Sign-in Helper. Enter the email address or phone number you're signing in with and the tool diagnoses most account sign-in problems for you (Microsoft Support).
- Reset your password. If you've simply forgotten it, use Microsoft's reset-your-password flow (Microsoft Support).
- Look up your username. If you're not sure which address the account uses, Microsoft's "Look up your Microsoft account" tool will find it (Microsoft Support).
- Sort out verification codes. If the security code never arrives, follow Microsoft's help for sign-in verification codes before trying again (Microsoft Support).
- Update the saved password in Outlook. After changing your password, sign in again when Outlook prompts so the app stops using the old one (Microsoft Support).
- Check for a temporary block. Accounts flagged for unusual sign-in activity are blocked until you complete Microsoft's unblock steps (Microsoft Support).
- Ask your IT admin for work or school accounts. Those passwords are managed by your organisation, not by Microsoft consumer support (Microsoft Support).
Still stuck? If you haven't signed in for more than two years the account may have been deleted and can't be reopened; otherwise, submit the Microsoft account recovery form (Microsoft Support).
