Facebook Account Locked or Disabled: How to Fix It

When you try to log in, Facebook tells you your account has been suspended, disabled, or locked instead of letting you through.

Try these in order

  1. Read the exact message Log in and note whether it says "We suspended your account" or "We disabled your account" — the two have different outcomes (Facebook Help Center).
  2. Check your email Facebook usually emails an explanation and a link to what happens next (Facebook Help Center).
  3. Appeal straight away If your account is suspended, log in and follow the on-screen prompt to appeal. Don't wait — you generally have 180 days, after which the account becomes permanently disabled (Facebook Help Center).
  4. If it's just locked, confirm your identity Facebook will ask for a code sent by text or email. Make sure you're checking the right phone number or address (Facebook Help Center).
  5. Fix code problems Check blocked messages on your phone, make sure you have signal and free storage for texts, and restart the phone (Facebook Help Center).
  6. Wait a day if you've requested lots of codes Requesting repeatedly can slow things down; give it 24 hours before trying again (Facebook Help Center).
Still stuck? If your appeal is rejected the account is permanently disabled and you can't request another review, so consider starting fresh (Facebook Help Center). Your carrier can also confirm whether your plan blocks Facebook's code texts.
