Uber Payment Not Working or Card Declined: How to Fix It

Uber won't accept your card — you see messages like "Card declined" or "Your payment method is invalid" and can't request a trip.

Try these in order

  1. Check your card details in Wallet Open the Wallet section of the app menu and update or add a payment method — declines are often caused by wrong details, an expired card, or not enough funds (Uber Help).
  2. Clear any outstanding balance If you owe money from a previous trip, follow the prompts in the app to clear it before you can book again (Uber Help).
  3. Delete and re-add the card Add an alternate payment method first, then remove the problem card and add it back to clear any stuck charges (Uber Help).
  4. Avoid prepaid cards Uber doesn't currently accept prepaid cards and you may see an error when you try to add one (Uber Help).
  5. Call your bank Banks block Uber charges if you're travelling abroad without authorising international transactions, if fraud rules trigger, if you've hit a spending limit, or if the card was reported lost or stolen (Uber Help).
  6. Reinstall the app or try another device Delete and reinstall Uber to get the latest version, then try logging in on a different device to see if the issue is device-related (Uber Help).
Still stuck? If your bank confirms nothing is wrong on their end, use the "Log in to get help" option on Uber's payment help page to reach a support agent about your specific charge (Uber Help).
